State Funding Secured to Strengthen Brain Injury Support Across South Carolina

BIASC will receive $500,000 in state funding to strengthen support for South Carolinians living with brain injury and their families.

On Sept. 1, Gov. Henry McMaster signed Supplemental H. 3035 without issuing any vetoes, securing the $500,000 appropriation requested by Rep. Sylleste Davis for the FY27 Community Engagement Project: Brain Injury Outreach and Education.

The funding will support BIASC’s statewide work in education and training, community outreach, helpline services, resource facilitation, peer mentorship, and efforts to address current gaps in services for individuals and caregivers affected by brain injury.

For many people, leaving the hospital or completing rehabilitation is only the beginning of life after brain injury. Survivors and families may face long-term challenges navigating healthcare, community resources, employment, relationships, and other needs. This investment will help BIASC connect more South Carolinians with information, resources, support, and services as they navigate life after brain injury.

This funding follows months of advocacy by BIASC, brain injury survivors, caregivers, professionals, community partners, and others who contacted state lawmakers and shared why these services matter.
