Brain Injury Friendly Yoga & Mindfulness Class: March 6, 2024

Summary:
BIASC is thrilled to announce that we are hosting another FREE webinar for Brain Injury Survivors! This will be a seated adapted yoga class, so that anyone of any ability level or skill level can participate.

Yoga is good for your brain health because it can reduce stress and anxiety, increase focus and concentration, improve cognitive function, promote neuroplasticity, and enhance brain connectivity.

Yoga is a practice involving physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and mindfulness. Yoga has been shown to have a positive impact on brain health in several ways:

  1. Reducing stress and anxiety: Yoga has been shown to reduce the levels of cortisol, the hormone that is associated with stress, in the body. Regular practice of yoga has been found to reduce anxiety and improve mood.

  2. Increasing focus and concentration: Practicing yoga involves focusing on the breath, which can improve concentration and focus. Yoga has also been shown to increase the size of the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory and learning.

  3. Improving cognitive function: Yoga has been found to improve cognitive function, including memory, attention, and processing speed.

  4. Promoting neuroplasticity: Yoga has been shown to increase the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which is a protein that promotes the growth of new neurons and connections in the brain. This can lead to improved brain function and a reduced risk of cognitive decline.

  5. Enhancing brain connectivity: Studies have shown that regular yoga practice can increase connectivity between different regions of the brain, leading to improved communication and integration of brain function.
