Brain Injury Awareness Month Community Art Project

Metamorphosis: Striving and Thriving After Brain Injury

In celebration of Brain Injury Awareness Month, the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (SCDDSN) in conjunction with the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina (BIASC) will facilitate the creation of a Brain Injury Awareness Month Community Art Project entitled “Metamorphosis: Striving and Thriving After Brain Injury”. Participants will decorate butterfly cutouts using a medium(s) of their choice such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.

The decorated butterflies will become part of a larger piece of artwork which will be displayed at SCDDSN’s Central Office in Columbia, SC during the entire month of March.

Who should participate: Individual survivors of a brain injury, parents/guardians/caregivers of individuals living with a brain injury, and/or children of brain injury survivors.

What to do: Decorate the front of the butterfly cutout with any medium of your choice (i.e. markers, colored pencils, crayons, glitter, stickers, etc.)

Deadline: Please return decorated butterfly cut-outs by Friday February 23, 2024 to Qwendalyn Grant, TBI Grants Coordinator, at SC DDSN Central Office (3440 Harden Street Ext., Columbia, SC 29203).

For additional information, please contact Qwendalyn Grant at qwendalyn.grant@ddsn.sc.gov or via phone at (803) 403-3085.

You may download the layout for the butterfly by clicking here. If possible, print the cutout onto cardstock paper before decorating. A thicker paper will allow for more durability while you design your piece of art.
