A Farewell from Jordyn, BIASC Intern

Jordyn McKeone, BSW, BIASC intern

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to intern with BIASC this year. This experience has been truly unforgettable, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been welcomed so warmly into such a supportive and inspiring community. From day one, I felt included, valued, and encouraged to learn and grow.

Throughout my internship, I’ve had the privilege of participating in a wide range of meaningful experiences. I attended a Fireflies game to help promote BIASC and raise awareness for brain injury survivors. I participated in and co-led both the Thrive Together support group and the in-person Columbia Adult Support Group. I also facilitated creative activities, including painting classes and Zentangling sessions.

In addition, I helped organize and staff our Soda City tabling events, volunteered with the Walk, Run & Roll for Brain Injury Awareness, and assisted with the BIASC hotline, connecting individuals with vital resources. I was especially honored to co-lead the Peer Mentorship Program and its training, volunteer at Advocacy Day for Access and Independence, and join survivors and staff at the Statehouse, where we helped raise awareness and were formally recognized in both the Senate and the House.

Through all of these experiences, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the diverse journeys of individuals living with brain injury and the remarkable strength and resilience of this community.

I feel truly blessed to have been part of BIASC. Thank you to the amazing staff and everyone in this organization for making my internship so meaningful and memorable. I will carry the lessons I’ve learned here with me always, and I’m deeply grateful to have contributed to your important mission.
