Laura Shuman Joins the BIASC Board of Directors
BIASC is pleased to welcome Laura Shuman as the newest member of our Board of Directors.
Laura brings more than three decades of experience as an occupational therapist. For 22 years, she worked as a school-based occupational therapist, supporting students in achieving greater independence and success in their daily lives. Earlier in her career, she gained extensive experience across a range of healthcare settings, including home health, acute care, outpatient pediatrics, the VA, and Ft. Gordon, where she practiced for 16 years.
Four and a half years ago, Laura sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a motor vehicle crash. Since then, she has navigated her own recovery while learning firsthand how complex the healthcare system can be for brain injury survivors. Her personal experience has strengthened her commitment to advocacy and fueled her desire to help improve support and resources for others.
Laura joined the BIASC Board because she sees a critical need for greater public awareness and education about brain injuries. She is also passionate about improving how medical professionals identify, assess, and refer individuals with brain injuries—particularly those experiencing post-concussion symptoms.
Through her recovery journey, Laura has connected with many fellow survivors who have shared their frustrations and challenges. She hopes to use her voice and professional background to advocate for them and help ensure that survivors are heard, supported, and connected to the services they need.
We are honored to welcome Laura to the BIASC Board and look forward to the perspective, experience, and passion she brings to our mission of creating a better future through brain injury prevention, research, education, and advocacy.
