A Message from the Incoming President, Larry Lucas
It is an honor to serve as the next President of the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina. I am grateful for the confidence placed in me and deeply committed to advancing the mission of this organization on behalf of individuals and families impacted by brain injury across our state.
As a State Farm agency owner, I have seen and experienced many disasters, seen the trauma from auto, home, and workplace accidents, and seen survivors, family members, and friends struggling during the rehabilitation process. Observing the incredible impact and assistance of our organization throughout the state, even with a relatively small staff, continues to amaze me.
As President, my primary focus will be on three key priorities. First, we will work to diversify and strengthen our funding sources to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience. A broader funding base will allow us to expand programs, respond more effectively to community needs, and reduce reliance on any single revenue stream.
Second, we will increase awareness and amplify our impact statewide. Brain injury affects every community in South Carolina, and it is essential that our voices, resources, and advocacy efforts reach survivors, caregivers, and professionals in every corner of the state.
Third, I am committed to providing meaningful support to those at the heart of this work—caregivers, survivors, and medical providers. Their dedication, expertise, and lived experience are central to everything we do, and our association must continue to be a trusted partner and resource for the entire brain injury community.
I also want to express my strong support for our Executive Director, Joyce Davis, whose lifelong dedication to brain injury advocacy and service is truly exceptional. Her leadership, knowledge, and compassion are invaluable assets to this organization, and I look forward to working closely with her as we move forward together.
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our outgoing President, Andrew Gowdown, for his leadership, dedication, and professionalism over the past several years. His steady guidance has helped position the Association for continued growth and impact, and we are grateful for his service.
I look forward to working with our board, staff, partners, and members as we build on our strong foundation and continue to make a meaningful difference throughout South Carolina.
Respectfully,
Larry Lucas, ChFC, CLU, CASL, AIC
BIASC President
